Since the climatic conditions prevailing in tamilnadu are favourable for cultivation of horticultural crops. The National Horticultural Mission was implemented in tamilnadu with vision of expanding the cultivation area of fruits, vegetables, flowers, medicinal and aromatic plants and thereby increasing the production of horticultural crops. This scheme has been successfully implemented in almost all states of India excluding the states of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttaranchal by the central government of India. This scheme is implemented with 85% of financial assistance by the central government and 15% of financial assistance by the respective state government in the tenth five year plan.
NHM is being implemented in Tamil Nadu in the following districts

During the last year 2005-2006 and the current year 2006-2007, the central government of India has approved and sanctioned funds for 100 pack houses and 70 reefer vans.
Beneficiaries of this project
Individuals, Farmer Groups, Voluntary Organizations, Companies and Self Help Groups.
Procedure of project functioning
The application for the project has to be addressed and submitted to the Secretary, Marketing Committee or Assistant Director (Marketing), Agriculture.

Project is executed by realizing loans from the banks prescribed.

On completion of the project, a certificate of completion is obtained from the bank and submitted to the officials concerned.

And these officers after presenting and getting approved at the district level executive committee have to forward to the Director, Department of Agricultural Marketing & Agri Business, Chennai.

Based on the recommendations of the district level executive committee suitable subsidies shall be provided by the banks to the beneficiaries.
